The Cula Platform enables the analysis of operational and machine data through KPIs. KPIs can be used to satisfy reporting needs for audits and management, and provide actionable insights during troubleshooting.
In order to display a KPI on a dashboard, first a KPI Dashboard needs be created, then a KPI needs to be defined, and finally a Widget needs to be added to the KPI Dashboard to visualize the KPI.
Creating a KPI Dashboard
- Navigate to the KPI Module: Go to https://app.cula.earth/site/kpis (Cula Production Environment) / https://demo.app.cula.earth/site/kpis (Cula Demo Environment), or select the KPI icon (↗) in the left navigation sidebar.
-
a) Create First KPI Dashboard: If no dashboard exists, provide a dashboard name and confirm by selecting Create.
b) Create Additional KPI Dashboard: Move the mouse cursor to the top of the page until the + icon appears and click it. Provide a name and click on Create.
Note: Newly created KPI dashboards are private by default. Access can be granted to other site users via the share settings.
Defining a KPI
-
Navigate to the KPI Module: Go to https://app.cula.earth/site/kpis (Cula Production Environment) / https://demo.app.cula.earth/site/kpis (Cula Demo Environment) or click on KPIs on the left navigation bar. If no dashboards exist, follow above Creating a KPI Dashboard instructions.
-
Open KPI Configuration: Select Show KPIs on the top right hand corner to display the All KPIs panel and select + Create KPI.
-
Choose KPI Type: Cula accounts that track Machine Data, have the option to choose between creating Operations KPIs or Machine Data KPIs. Create Operations KPI allows reporting on physical activities that are recorded in Cula. Create Machine Data KPI allows reporting on e.g. sensor data.
a) Operations KPI:
- Name KPI: Enter a descriptive title in the Name field (e.g., Wet Biochar Produced)
-
Select a Metric: In the Metrics section, select + to open the metric selector. Choose the required Metric to track. Remove any non-needed Metrics.
Metric Description Wet amount output (kg) The wet amount of material resulting from an event (biomass, pyrolysis, or repackaging). Dry amount input (kg) The dry amount of material consumed by an event (pyrolysis, repackaging, or material application). Dry amount received (kg) The dry amount of material received by an incoming delivery. Unit count input The number of units consumed by an event (pyrolysis, repackaging, or material application). Unit count output The number of units resulting from an event (biomass, pyrolysis, or repackaging). Unit count sent The number of units sent by an outgoing delivery. Unit count received The number of units received by an incoming delivery. Note: If additional metrics are required, a feature request can be filed via support@cula.tech.
-
Apply Filters: Select the filter icon (▽) next to Material Filter, Container Type Filter, or Processing Type Filter to restrict data parameters. Leaving a filter unselected includes all values.
-
Save the KPI: Select Confirm after choosing the relevant filters. The configured metric will be displayed in the All KPIs panel.
b) Machine Data KPI:
-
Name KPI: Enter a descriptive title in the Name field (e.g., Average Reactor Temperature)
- Select a Metric: In the Metric section, select the required Machine Data to track.
-
Select the Aggregation: Select an Aggregation option and a Time Interval. The Time Interval is used in the Bar Chart Widget to determine if a bar with the aggregated value should be shown per hour, day, week or month.
Aggregation Description Average Calculates the mean value of the recorded sensor readings over the selected time interval.
Minimum Identifies the lowest recorded reading within the selected time interval.
Maximum Identifies the highest recorded reading within the selected time interval.
Delta Measures the difference between the lowest and highest recorded values within the selected time interval. Time (hours) Calculates the total duration (in hours) that a machine data remained in a specific state. Condition (such as =,>, or<) defines which recorded machine data values are included in the evaluation. The Maximum Gap setting determines for how long machine data recordings may be missed to still consider them within the Condition. - Save the KPI: Select Confirm after choosing the relevant filters. The configured metric will be displayed in the All KPIs panel.
Visualizing a KPI through a Widget
-
Navigate to the KPI Module: Go to https://app.cula.earth/site/kpis (Cula Production Environment) / https://demo.app.cula.earth/site/kpis (Cula Demo Environment) or click on KPIs on the left navigation bar.
-
Select target KPI Dashboard: Select the KPI Dashboard, where the KPI should be displayed, from the top of the page. If no dashboards exist, follow above Creating a KPI Dashboard instructions.
-
Create a Widget: Click on + Add Widget at the top right corner, or + Create Widget in the center, if this is the first widget of the KPI Dashboard. If the + Add Widget or + Create Widget buttons are not available, a KPI must first be created.
-
Name the Widget: In the Name field overwrite the default Widget name. The Widget name is shown as a label on the KPI Dashboard.
- Assign a KPI: Click + Add KPI and select the desired KPI to be displayed in the widget.
-
Choose a visualization: Under Visualization, select how the data should be displayed.
Visualisation Type Description Absolute Number Displays the total aggregated value for the selected time period as a single numerical figure. Toggle Show unrounded value to display exact decimal figures. Cumulative Line Chart Displays a continuous line graph showing the step-by-step accumulation of the KPI over time, illustrating growth or net totals up to the end of the selected period. Bar Chart Displays data as vertical bars across discrete time intervals, allowing for comparisons across specific sub-periods within the selected timeframe. -
Resize and Reposition the Widget: Optionally hover with the mouse cursor over the bottom left or right of the Widget to resize it, or hover with the mouse cursor to the Name of the Widget and drag and drop it to the desired location.
Editing a Widget
